Financial Services Executive Search
Chiefs of Staff, Business Operations and Executive Operations leaders for financial services firms.
Operating leadership around the financial business
A financial services firm has work that sits between its investment or client-facing professionals and the functions supporting them. Leadership priorities, management reporting, executive commitments and cross-functional projects need clear ownership. WDA Careers helps define and recruit the operator responsible for that work.
Our industry experience informs the questions we ask. We begin with the firm’s business model, its leadership structure and the decisions the new hire will own. A role supporting an investment partnership will differ from one coordinating a growing operating business.
Define the mandate before choosing the title
A Chief of Staff may translate a principal’s priorities into decisions and follow-through across the firm. A Business Operations leader may own operating cadence, internal workflows and coordination across functions. An Executive Operations leader may manage the executive office, advisor relationships and commitments that require discretion.
We clarify the boundaries with finance, investment, legal, compliance and other established functions. The search should give the operator a workable mandate, with a clear reporting relationship and authority that matches the responsibilities.
What we explore with candidates
We look at what candidates have actually owned: decisions they helped move forward, operating processes they built and relationships they managed when priorities competed. Familiarity with a sector is useful when it improves judgment in the role.
We explore how a candidate handles confidential information, communicates with senior stakeholders and keeps work moving across specialists. The assessment follows the agreed mandate, rather than treating an impressive employer name as proof of fit.
When to start the conversation
A search may become useful when a principal remains the default coordinator, a growing firm needs a more consistent operating cadence, or work across teams lacks a clear owner. Before launching, we establish what the hire must change and what support leadership will provide.
If the responsibilities sit across a principal’s business, investment and private affairs, we can also discuss whether the mandate belongs in a family-office or executive-office search.
